Introducing our new executive programme in resilience thinking

Stockholm Resilience Centre has in collaboration with the Pontus Schultz Foundation launched a new programme designed to help companies identify new business opportunities, define priorities, and accelerate action.

The programme will provide a science-based, future-oriented and business-driven learning journey through the most relevant insights, concepts and tools at the frontier of sustainability science and resilience thinking. Participants will explore how their businesses influences, and is affected by global change. They will be part of a small group of selected business leaders who will meet in Stockholm over the course of six months, beginning in fall 2018. Designed for CEOs, chairpersons and executive VPs, the programme includes a start-up seminar, a three-day retreat, individual coaching and assignments, and a follow-up seminar. Admission will be selective to make the most of the opportunities for peer-to-peer learning.

The new programme is met with considerable interest and enthusiasm by key figures within both business and policy.

The sustainability transformation is just as radical as the digital transformation. What we urgently need is a shift in perception by the private sector to discover the opportunities of these transformations, rather than seeing them as threats. I am encouraged to see the ambition of this programme and how it can help the private sector transform towards such a mindset.

Christiana Figueres, Former Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC and central to the successful 2015 Paris climate agreement, says:

"Our actions on climate protection over the next few years will determine whether we continue on a path of exponentially growing national disasters, or pivot onto a path toward a safer, more prosperous world. I am excited to see the development of an executive program that can truly help accelerate this transition."

The programme is hosted by the Stockholm Resilience Centre and developed in collaboration with the Pontus Schultz Foundation.

Says centre executive director Johan Rockström: "Prosperity in the Anthropocene era, where humanity constitutes the largest driver of change on the planet, requires a deep mind shift and a global transformation to sustainability. A scientific framing of the new realities for business and societies, is not only a necessity. It is also an immense opportunity, to unleash technological and system innovations, accelerating the path towards a thriving resilient future for Humanity on Earth. This is why we are now planning an Executive program on resilience, transformation and sustainability."
